2022

CONTOUR REPOSSESS MUSIC VIDEO: Kaiuna co-edited this music video with director and musician Khari Lucas. Featured on MTV 

 

MONTEZ PRESS RADIO - CHAMBER MUSIC: Kaiuna performs underneath their new moniker Deuén (fka as MIIV), in a trio with Lamb and Imani Lherrison to present Chamber Music, a performance that “ruptures the site and sounds of classical European chamber music through a Black (re)imagining of domestic, small group performance.” For Montez Press Radio, curated by Khari Lucas. 

 

STILL GOES BY NOLA LATTY: Kaiuna modeled clothes and created textures in Blender/Photoshop to be used on base models in Unity, for Nola Latty's virtual play, Still Goes, which first premiered at Exponential Festival. Read a review here

 

2021

 

FROM AFTER EFFECTS TO AI: Kaiuna was invited through NYU Gallatin's STAC lab to teach a 5 week-workshop on their process of creating video art via after-effects and emerging machine learning software like VQGan+ and Runway ML. 

 

WILLIE MAE ROCK CAMP X NYC PRIDE: Kaiuna was asked by Willie Mae Rock Camp to record a video concert for their NYC Pride event, “Willie Mae Rock’s Pride.” 

 

SHAKESPEARE ON THE BLOCK X OYE GROUP: Kaiuna assisted playwrights Nazareth Hassan and Ava Novak to compose and perform bass for Oye Group’S SOTB performance at Little Island.

 

UMBRA E.P: In May 2021, Kaiuna (f.k.a as MIIV) released their first E.P “Umbra,” the self-produced project was featured on publications like RESIDENT ADVISOR,10011 MAG, Mixed Mag, High Clouds, and Cool Hunting. Umbra navigates relationships, paranoia, and the self across haunting soundscapes evoking the work of artists like Spellling, Eartheater, and BEA1991. Choir-like vocals, ambient synth pads, and 808s resonate as the heartbeat of a sleeping giant comprises Deuén’s first effort.

2020

 

CREATIVE CODE ART: Kaiuna performed a live experimental audio set and showcased original video art, some old and some new. Most notable was “Black Euphoria,” in which machine learning was used to generate a model of blackness. This performance looked at how computers allow us to create sanctuaries and foster communication, while still being a reflection of society's oppressive systems.

 

​ARTIST RESIDENCY WITH LABORATORY: Remote residency. Saint A's project "Sex With Me" explores body memory via installation art and projection mapping. 

OFFICIAL SELECTION - MILWAUKEE FILM FESTIVAL:  Suburban Music Video. Digital film shot in 2019, directed and edited by Saint A, made in collaboration with Callan Thomas. 

​SLUT ISLAND FESTIVAL: Kaiuna was selected to be a part of Slut Island’s 2020 Festival. Normally this festival takes place in Tio’tia:ke, unceded Kanien'keha:ka (Mohawk) territory Montreal, QC. Due to COVID-19, this festival took place virtually. Acts have included Serpentwithfeet, BbyMutha, Tati Au miel, and other infleuntial queer, trans, and POC artists. 

 

2019

 

10011 MAG: Pile, Video Premiere Kaiuna helped shoot music video for artist Lamb (fka Ntu) 

COLLABORATOR IN MUSE TISCH RESIEDENCY: June 2019 Kaiuna created video art that was projection-mapped in St.Marks Church for Nala Duma’s piece (000), which premiered June 10th and June 15th, 2019, and was featured on AQNB mag.

76A5, GALLATIN ARTS FESTIVAL: a performance piece that explored the relationship between trust and sex via dance, video art, and sound. 

 

QUEEN ZAVIZE: Video installation presented at Made in Media Center NY that examined ritual and Nigerian culture through an altered video of the artist’s naming ceremony.

Co-curator of DIGITALGIRL: a temporary collective that fostered community and highlighted women, femme, and or non-binary individuals interested in and involved in the music industry and tech. DIGITAL GIRL was a Tisch Profunds grant recipient.
